Altit Fort was originally home to the hereditary rulers of Hunza before they moved to Baltit Fort three centuries later. At around 1,100 years old, its Shikari Tower is the oldest monument in Gilgit-Baltistan, and the fort won UNESCO's Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation in 2011.
