Taxila, historically known as Takshashila, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site about 25km northwest of Islamabad. Founded around 1000 BCE, it was once a major center of Buddhist and Gandharan learning, and today its excavated stupas, monasteries, and museum draw visitors from around the world.
